The high-profile case involving a Limpopo police captain arrested for allegedly conspiring to murder her husband, is set to go to trial next month.
The Polokwane regional court yesterday ruled that the case against Christina Molokomme, who was attached to the Polokwane Police Station, be postponed to October 15 for trial.
Magistrate SJ Reynolds agreed with Molokomme's lawyer, Advocate Sipho Talane, that the matter had been dragging on for too long and that the trial was overdue. Molokomme, 39, sat motionless during the court proceedings.
She smiled at family members as the trial date was announced.
"You will still be kept at the mental hospital to undergo observation until the trial resumes," Reynolds told Molokomme, who agreed by nodding her head.
Molokomme was arrested on December 18 last year after allegedly plotting the murder of her husband, Phillip Molokomme, who works for the police elite unit, the Scorpions, in Pretoria.
She allegedly hatched the plan after gaining access to her husband's insurance policy details. The police captain allegedly hired two men to murder her husband.
She also allegedly gave them her service pistol to use to disarm her husband, after which they were to drive towards Gauteng where they were to shoot him dead with his own firearm.
She had reasoned with the would-be assassins that this would make the murder look like an armed robbery.
The would-be assassins informed the police about the plan and a trap was set for her, during which she was arrested.
