Directed by the department of sports and recreation's 2010 World Cup Unit, the project will involve soccer players of yesteryear.
Dubbed Football Explosion, the project will be launched on Friday at the Alfred Nzo, OR Tambo and Chris Hani municipalities.
"It is part of the legacy projects by the department of sport, recreation, arts and culture through the 2010 unit," said Gogo Manqoyi, the unit's strategic manager.
"Our targets is this case are the soccer legends. We are well aware that the Eastern Cape has produced an array of soccer players.
"The Football Explosion is one of our mobilisation projects, we will be using the legends as coaches at various levels of the game.
"We have agreed with the South African Football Association and other stakeholders in the sport that we need to start a roadshow in the province.
"During the roadshows, we will be visiting all the seven districts where we will have meetings with the legends to explain the importance of having them back in the game," said Manqoyi.
She added that the other roadshows will take place at Ukhahlamba and Nelson Mandela Metro municipalities on October 5 and 6.
Subsequent to that, they will move to Cacadu and Amathole municipalities on October 7.
"On October 13 and 14, there will be a legends tournament where all the seven districts will be involved," said Manqoyi.
"During the roadshows, impressive youngsters will be selected to feature in a provincial tournament on October 20 and 21 at a venue still to be confirmed. A provincial team will be selected during the provincial tournament, that team will play against a Premier Soccer League side either on October 27 or 28.
Some of the soccer legends from the Eastern Cape include Frankie Schoeman, Fezile Momo, Mongi Rula, Brendon Augustine, Sipho Ndzuzo, Mzawuthethi Nogwaza and Nigel Dixon.
