Jabulani Mall in Soweto is the place to shop and be entertained.

The mall is popular among both Sowetans and tourists who want to experience township life.

Soweto is a massive township and the official figure of its population is more than a million. The township has a significant place in the history and culture of South Africa because of its role in the fight against apartheid.

Jabulani Mall is in the traditional heartland of Soweto and is surrounded by a densely populated residential node.

The area comprises 68000 households within a three-kilometre radius. A further 170000 households exist in the secondary trade area.

The mall has been designed around major anchors fed from three major entrances. The middle entrance leads to the fast food and restaurant area, a focal point for night-time trading. There are 1051 parking bays, with walkways with easy access for pedestrians.

The City of Johannesburg launched a number of projets and programmes to deepen the infrastructural and economic development in Soweto.

Economic projects have also been taken over by the private sector. Fast-track programmes in the township to eradicate gravel roads have been a huge success.

Other projects included access to drinking water, electrifying Soweto, upgrading and developing homes and parks

Billions of rands have been spent by government and business on Orlando Ekhaya, Maponya Mall and the Bara taxi and bus facility.

Other projects are Moroka Dam, Thokoza Park and Vilakazi Street.
