Queens of tarts

Cards, known for its graphic portrayal of violence, nudity and extreme sex scenes, is back at the State Theatre in Pretoria from October 4 to October 21.

This time, the producers insist, is the last time the show will grace the stage because they want to raise money to turn it into a film.

Co-written and directed by Paul Mpumelelo Grootboom and Mothusi Mokoto, Cards is set in the sleazy Wild Cats Nightclub in the notorious flatland of Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

The play is about the lives of girls caught up in a life of prostitution where drugs, poverty and exploitation are endemic.
