Former South African junior middleweight boxing champion Tshepo Mashego's hopes of winning another title were dashed in New South Wales, Australia.

Mashego was comprehensively beaten on points by Australian Jamie Pittman for the vacant Pan African middleweight title.

The unbeaten Pittman, who registered his 14th victory in as many bouts, was in complete control from the first round to the last. All three judges confirmed his dominance by scoring the fight 120-108.

Mashego's trainer Paul Tshehla said his charge lost the fight but won the hearts of fight enthusiasts who showered Mashego with 300 Australian dollars in appreciation of what he did in the ring.

"I do not want to be misunderstood here, we lost the fight but not by such wide margins. To be honest it was a controversial fight," Tshehla said.

"Pittman was very rough and the referee turned a blind eye. There was even a situation in round six where Tshepo hurt Pittman badly and the referee pushed Tshepo aside and ordered Pittman's corner to tie the string on his glove when there was nothing wrong with it."

It was Mashego's eighth defeat in 23 fights.
