A Mpumalanga businessman who allegedly shot his wife seven times before shoving her out of a moving car will know today whether or not his bail application is successful.
Today is D-Day for the bail application of Solly Madileng, 48, of Marapyane, who faces a charge of attempted murder.
He allegedly shot his wife, Maki, pictured, repeatedly when she told him she intended ending their 10-year marriage.
On Wednesday, the investigating officer, Inspector J Phofele, opposed Madileng's bail application, saying that Madileng had violated his bail conditions in a separate case.
Phofele told the court that Madileng was granted bail of R5000 in the kidnap and assault case of his former employee.
It is alleged that Madileng kidnapped and assaulted his former employee, Ephraim Makitla, who he had accused of stealing from his supermarket.
This was after the shop was broken into, and Madileng suspected that Makitla was behind the burglary.
He laid charges against Makitla, but the case was thrown out of court because of insufficient evidence.
Madileng then allegedly kidnapped Makitla, locked him up in a house and seriously assaulted him.
Makitla then opened a case of assault and kidnapping against his former employer.
Madileng was then arrested and granted bail of R5000 by the Marapyane periodical court.
"While on bail, he went to see Maki at her parents' home after she had moved out of their marital home," Phofele told the court.
"He tried to reconcile with his wife, but Maki stood firm. He then sprayed her with a hail of bullets in the mouth, stomach and legs."
Phofele also said Madileng was a danger to society, and that the safety of his wife, who is still in hospital, would be at risk should he be granted bail .
