Learn all about jewellery

Education and training are top priorities for the jewellery industry in its search for new talent. Courses are available throughout South Africa, such as the three-year national diploma in jewellery manufacture and design.

The Tshwane University of Technology boasts a department dedicated to jewellery design and manufacture. The Hans Merensky platinum jewellery studio has become a feature for third-year students.

Students from the department have done well in national competitions.

The University of Stellenbosch offers a four-year degree with majors in design and production, which develops students' artistic and technical skills.

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology says it has the best resources in jewellery facilities in Africa. Students are given opportunities to start their own businesses after they graduate.

The College of Cape Town equips students with the skills they need to enter jewellery manufacturing. Students also get opportunities to develop their skills at local manufacturers.
