Police say they are winning the fight against crime, but opposition parties have again called into question their performance and the way they produce statistics.

National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi yesterday praised the work of the police over the last year, but the Democratic Alliance's Dianne Kohler Barnard raised question marks about the way the police assess performance.
