The Council of Education Ministers (CEM) has approved the introduction of a General Education Certificate for pupils who complete Grade 9.

The Council of Education Ministers (CEM) has approved the introduction of a General Education Certificate for pupils who complete Grade 9.

Briefing the media after a meeting of the CEM in Cape Town yesterday, Education Minister Naledi Pandor said the certificate, to be called a General Education Certificate, would be introduced in 2009.

The CEM is a statutory body comprising Pandor, her deputy Enver Surty and the nine provincial education MECs. - Sapa
