A Mpumalanga councillor who is facing charges of housebreaking and theft was granted R2000 bail in the Dullstroom magistrate's court on Friday.
Emakhazeni Municipality councillor Bafana Hadebe, 43, appeared with co-accused Isaac Bhembe, 37, an administration clerk atMpilonhle Primary School in Dullstroom.
Hadebe and Bhembe, who was also granted R2000 bail, are accused of breaking into the primary school and stealing equipment.
Bhembe's common-law wife, Francisca Mboweni, 31, is also a co-accused, but was previously released on her own cognisances.
They allegedly broke into the school and stole items that include a television set, radio, R350 worth of paint and clothes left by teachers at the school, to the value of R50 000.
The three were arrested two weeks ago and have not been asked to plead to the charges.
Hadebe and Bhembe were previously remanded in custody pending their court appearance last week.
The arrests relate to the burglary that took place in July and police said their investigations had led to the three suspects.
The same school was broken into in January when equipment was stolen. Investigations led to Bhembe's arrest. He was out on bail and is to appear in court again today on related charges.
"He (Bhembe) was charged with housebreaking and theft but was not suspended from work.
"He has apparently taken advantage and committed a similar offence," police spokesman Captain Leonard Hlathi said yesterday.
Police are investigating the councillor's possible link to the first burglary.
