Briefing media in Cape Town, ID deputy president Simon Grindrod said his party, as well as other members of the DA-led City of Cape Town coalition government, were disappointed that the DA had used the floor-crossing window to weaken them.
"Coalition partners are not happy that the DA has poached councillors from them."
The ID, which had 22 seats when it joined the coalition, now has 17 in the 210-member council, while the DA has increased its seats to 94 from 91. From among other parties within the coalition, the DA lured councillors from the United Independent Front and the ID, Grindrod said.
"Things will not be same after the floor crossing," he said.
The ID, which holds three mayoral committee portfolios, would now want to play a much bigger role in the coalition government, he said.
"We went in very cheaply because we wanted to stabilise the city. We will be approaching the DA to renegotiate the composition of the coalition government," said Grindrod. - Sapa
