Choral music lovers were treated to world class performances at this year's Massed Choir Festival at the Standard Bank Arena yesterday.
This was the 19th edition of the event and was dedicated to the late songwriter and conductor Jabulani Mazibuko. The festival was sponsored by Sowetan, Transnet and SABC.
The capacity crowd were thrilled by a blend of South African, Italian, American and British songs performed by some of the best local vocalists accompanied by an orchestra and a 1000-member massed choir. The crowd went wild when 77-year-old Professor Mzilikazi Khumalo took to the stage to conduct one of his favourites, Mangificwa ukufa, which he composed when he was 20.
Guest artist Ringo Madlingozi left the crowd crying for more after he performed his popular song Ndiyagodola with the massed choir and orchestra.
