Investigators probing allegations of corruption against KwaZulu-Natal's health head of department Busi Nyembezi will complete their task today.

The high-level independent probe was initiated following complaints to Premier Sbu Ndebele about the deteriorating relationship between Health MEC Peggy Nkonyeni and Nyembezi.

But following a meeting between Nkonyeni and Ndebele three weeks ago, a document alleging fraud against Nyembezi amounting to R15million surfaced within the department.

Documents in possession of Ndebele's department reveal that Nyembezi had channelled funds through tenders to her company Harambe Institute of Transformation as well its associates, including a former employee.

Sowetan has learned that the probe by legal firm Strauss Daly and Associates was extended to investigate the corruption allegations.

The investigation will also examine the health department's overexpenditure of R47million in its 2006-07 budget as well as the resignations of senior staffers associated with former health MEC Zweli Mkhize.

The senior staffers were allegedly given marching orders by Nyembezi.

Ndebele is expected to release the findings and recommendations of the investigations soon.

Meanwhile, former senior protocol manager Mandla Mathaba, who was allegedly forced out of the department by Nyembezi a year ago, will resume his duties next week.

This after he challenged his dismissal in a court, which ordered his reinstatement.
