Two farm labourers robbed a man and his wife at Surrey farm, in Fort Nottingham, KwaZulu-Natal, police said yesterday .

Michael Coppard, a manager at the farm, near Howick, and his wife, Joan, were confronted on Wednesday by two casual labourers who demanded permanent employment.

Police spokesman Superintendent Henry Budhram said Coppard had told them he would talk to the farm owner about their request.

The men then produced an axe and a knife and threatened them.

The attackers made off with R1300, cellphones, bank cards, electrical appliances and their bakkie, said Budhram.

The bakkie was later found abandoned 2km from the farm.

Some of the stolen items, except the cash and bank cards, were found inside the vehicle.
