Two policemen have been arrested in separate incidents for criminal activities.

A 26-year-old Pretoria police officer was arrested yesterday for allegedly helping criminals steal state vehicles in Pretoria.

The officer, who worked as a clerk, is accused of working with a gang that targeted cars at a police garage in Silverton, east of Pretoria.

Police said he supplied the gang with information on the comings and goings of guards at the garage.

In Mpumalanga, police arrested a 48-year-old police inspector at his Standerton home yesterday for possession of stolen property.

Police spokesman Captain Leonard Hlathi said a stolen white Isuzu bakkie was found in the inspector's garage.

The inspector works at the Standerton magistrate's court as an orderly.

"Police recovered the bakkie, which had no registration plates, hidden at the policeman's garage. He claimed that the car was brought to him by his cousin," said Hlathi.
