West Rand police, who had earlier refused to open a missing persons case after a man reported his wife and children missing, yesterday promised to help him after Sowetan intervened.

Now he fears if not found soon she might kill their two children and commit suicide.

Oupa Moiloa, 55, of Randfontein, said his wife Nombuso Khuboni, 42, left their home last Thursday saying she was going to collect child support grants. She did not return.

Moiloa said his wife took their two children Mapaseka, 6, and Keamogetse, 4. She also took all her children's and her belongings.

Moiloa said Khuboni told teachers when she fetched Mapaseka at school that they were going to a funeral.

"We did not have any argument. I don't know why she left without saying anything.

"I am afraid that she might kill herself and the children.

"I went to look for them at her relatives' homes but she was not there," said Moiloa.

"I reported the matter to Westonaria and Randfontein police stations, where they told me to go and find her. They said we must have had an argument that is why she left, adding that they could not help me."

In desperation, he approached Sowetan for help.

Sowetan contacted West Rand police spokesman Captain Joseph Mogoai, who urged Moiloa to contact him so that he can help him personally.
