Archbishop Enoch Ramokoka was truly a man of the cloth. His entire life revolved around the historic St Johns Apostolic Church of Prophecy.
The church was founded by his grandmother, Christina Nku, more than 100 years ago.
MaNku, as she was known, was a prophet and built the institution after dreaming of a church with 12 doors; one for each of Jesus Christ's disciples.
Ramokoka was born in 1943 to Bishop Darius Ramokoka and Lady bishop Maria Ramokoka, the daughter of the legendary MaNku.
He was elected archbishop in 1999 after the death of Archbishop Simon Nku.
With his duties firmly in the church, he made significant strides in continuing the legacy of his grandmother.
He is credited with building churches in all nine provinces of South Africa and in other Southern African countries.
Though plagued with turmoil and numerous splits, the mother church prides itself with 2million members. Ramokoka is commended for keeping the troubled church together.
A founder of the Vaal Chamber of Commerce, Ramokoka was instrumental in building the Sebokeng Shopping Complex.
He died on September 6 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Lady archbishop Lydia Ramokoka, four children, grandchildren and siblings.
His funeral service will be held at Plot 234, Zuurbekom, West Rand, tomorrow from 8am.
He will be buried at Ennerdale Cemetery.
