Another taxi boss was shot and killed in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mhlephethwe Chili, 36, from the KwaMashu Taxi Association, died after he and a friend were attacked by a group of unknown gunmen while driving on the Inanda road, near Newlands West. His white bakkie had se-veral bullet holes.

The gunmen, armed with an AK47 assault rifle, opened fire at Chili and his friend.

Chili died at the scene while his friend, Wiseman Mchunu, 40, survived with chest wounds. He was rushed to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital in a serious condition. Chili died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say although the motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage, they are nevertheless investigating if the killing is taxi-related.

Police spokesman Michael Reed said police had not received any reports of taxi violence within the association, or in the local taxi industry recently.

"We have not had taxi violence in the area for a while, but while investigating, we are not ruling out any possibility that the incident could be related to taxi violence," said Reed.
