Jubilation as ANC men defect to IFP

The defection of yet another ANC councillor from eNdumeni municipality in Dundee, northern KwaZulu-Natal, has given the IFP a firm grip over the embattled municipality.

The ANC's response is that the defection will not have any impact as the defectors are no longer councillors after they resigned last month.

Dharanlan Singh became the second ANC councillor to join the IFP yesterday. He followed in the footsteps of Thandanani Mkhize, who defected last weekend.

But the ANC considers their defection as nothing serious.

Blessed Gwala, pictured, the IFP's deputy provincial chairperson, was ecstatic yesterday, now that his party was in a clear majority to take over the municipality when the floor-crossing window period expires on Saturday at midnight.
