Family and friends of popular Umlazi deejay DJ Budda, 30, will gather at the eThekwini Community Church in central Durban today to bid farewell to the talented jock. The service will start at 4pm.

Budda, whose real name is Sibusiso Mnyandu, was one of two people who died in a car accident on Sunday in Johannesburg.

Kwaito star L'Vovo Derango and artists' manager Zakes Matiti were injured in the crash and are recovering in hospital.

Budda's sister Mpume Mnyandu said her brother's death came as a shock to her, her parents and two brothers.

She described her brother as a "kind-hearted soul". She said he was the most "caring person" she knew.

"All he wanted to do was make people happy. He loved children. He loved his family. He wanted to build a big home for our parents. And he wanted to have a family of his own."

Mayoni Production, the company that releases Derango's music, said Budda was due to release his new CD next March. Spokesman Sibusiso Mhlongo said his death was a blow to the music industry.

"Budda was unique. He was talented. He contributed so much to the industry. He had influence. His new album would have sold out. We will talk to his family about it and see what to do," Mhlongo said.
