Retired prof laid to rest

Retired Turfloop University's sociology associate professor, Samuel Rantshabele Motshologane, 71, who died at his home in Mankweng, near Polokwane in Limpopo, will be laid to rest on Saturday.

The professor died on Sunday after a short illness. He was dean of the faculty of arts for seven years, and was a representative of the Senate of Council for the same number of years.

He also served on the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) committee on family affairs and was a member of its executive committee. He became head of the QwaQwa campus of the university, where he played a pivotal role to facilitate its incorporation into the University of Free State.

For the greater part of his life, he was involved in church activities and was general secretary of the connexional local preachers association and a circuit steward in the Methodist Church of Southern Africa Capricorn District.

His son, Lebo, told Sowetan that the funeral service will take place at the local Methodist Church at 7am, after a short service at home starting at 6am.

Motshologane is survived by his wife Grace, three sons (Lebogang, Tiisetso and Nkgodiseng), three sisters and a grandchild.
