A new five-a-side soccer tournament, Sony Fevapitch, will kick off in Johannesburg on September 22 as part of the 2010 World Cup awareness campaigns.

Sony, who are one of the 2010 World Cup official suppliers, will sponsor the tournament for the next three years.

The tournament will also be played in Durban and Cape Town. Thirty-two amateur clubs will play in the tournament, which will follow a knockout format.

"We have taken this opportunity and based on the positioning of our brands within communities, opted to support initiatives that target the fun side of the sport where the public can be involved," said Andrew Fraser, brand manager of the entertainment and electronics company.

In Johannesburg, the games will be played at Southgate shopping centre on September 22 and 23. It will move to Cape Town's Camps Bay High School on September 29 and 30.

In Durban, the tournament will take place on November 24 and 25. It forms part of the 2010 World Cup preliminary draw on November 25.

The winners from the various cities will compete for the national title at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton on November 27.
