The Soweto Film and Writers Union will hold its first Women Film and Television Writers seminar.
The seminar takes place at the YWCA Centre, Orlando West, Soweto, on Thursday. It is hosted as part of the Heritage Month celebrations. All female scriptwriters are invited.
Basil Dube, project coordinator and the union's general secretary, said the aim of the initiative is to celebrate heritage month and to deal with issues affecting women writers in the industry.
"The seminar will address critical issues such as indigenous story content for film and television, adaptation, training and development in film scriptwriting and the role of women writers in enhancing the development of local television."
Dube was upbeat about recent developments in Soweto.
"The historic launch of Soweto Television and Joburg city council's announcement to build a theatre in Soweto are all positive developments that we welcome and appreciate," he said.
The seminar will also celebrate the contribution of writers and actors such as Miriam Tlali, Zakithi Dlamini, Mara Louw, Nomsa Nene, Mary Twala, Ellen Khuzwayo, Connie Chiume, Portia Rankoane, Dieketseng Mnisi, Lesego Motsepe, Lindi Chibi and many others.
