A Gauteng Housing Department official arrested in the Vaal at the weekend appeared in a Vereeniging magistrate's court on corruption and fraud charges yesterday.

Matthews Motseo, 41, was arrested in Vlakfontein, south of Johannesburg, for allegedly selling stands for R1000 each. He was released on R1000 bail and will appear again on October 1.

He was arrested in a joint operation between the police and the department's housing anti-fraud and corruption unit.

Last month, the MEC for Housing, Nomvula Mokonyane, said in Munsieville on the West Rand that corruption would no longer be tolerated.
