Sabido buys a slice of Botswana broadcaster

Television channel e.tv's holding company, Sabido, has acquired 49percent of Gabarone Broadcasting Company.

Television channel e.tv's holding company, Sabido, has acquired 49percent of Gabarone Broadcasting Company.

The company was Botswana's first television channel and is 51percent owned by Botswana banker Mike Klinck.

Sabido's involvement will provide the broadcaster with access to e.tv's inventory of movies, dramas and sports programmes.

e.tv has operated in South Africa since 1998 and is the country's only private free-to-air television channel.

"This is a fantastic development for the broadcasting industry in Botswana," said Klinck.

The broadcaster covers Gaborone and surrounding areas, reaching about 450000 people.

Its estimated active viewership is 160000 and it broadcasts a mix of sitcoms, dramas, sport and factual programming.
