Mosiuoa Lekota's utterance at a gala dinner in Vanderbijlpark shows the need to revisit who we place in positions of leadership.

This is tantamount to an insult to all the ex-MK members he has neglected as the Minister of Defence and the people of this country.

It also shows how his selective memory functions, because for him as the national chairman of the ANC to forget that the armed struggle was one of the pillars of our revolution and to also urge people to forget their past, is a slap in the face of our liberation movement.

To illustrate how people felt after Lekota's speech, this song was strongly sung in remembrance of our armed struggle. No wonder why our former liberation fighters are neglected - some are in prisons and others are homeless around the country.

Umshini wami is the song that belongs to the people, those who laid down their lives for this country, all those who are carrying the scars of our struggles.

I think the whole nation deserves a public apology from Lekota, or else he will be known as one of those who benefited from the system.

This is pure chicanery and we call on him to apologise. Most ex-combatants are offended.
