A group of workers lost their jobs after reminding their employer about their overdue salary increase.

The 30 employees of Vaal Glass in Carletonville were ordered to "pack and go" by Warren Venter, a manager, on Tuesday after asking about an increase they had been promised.

"When we reminded him about his promise he did not want to listen," said Petrus Mohoase.

He said Venter told them it was easy to replace them because there were people who can replace them.

The workers said Venter told them not to come to work anymore. Another employee, Sammy Monaisa, said it had always been a problem when they asked for the increase.

"He always threatened us with dismissal when we raised the issue," said Monaisa.

Sowetan contacted Venter and he refused to comment.
