The Vaal University of Technology plans to throw a big welcome party on Friday for their athletes who took part the recent World Student Games in Thailand.

The event will take place at the Vanderbijilpark campus, starting at 1pm and will be addressed by vice chancellor Irene Moutlana.

A total of 17 people represented the institution at the tournament, including runner Stephen Mokoka who won a bronze medal in the 10000m final.

Besides Mokoka, the other 10 000m athlete who participated at the World Student Games was Sibabalwe Mzazi.

Mike "Sponge" Seme, a top athletics development coach, was also in Thailand as a member of the technical staff.
