South African Airways could shed up to 2232 employees in a bid to cut costs as it seeks to return to profitability. The airline was seeking to save R638million in labour costs and the exact number of lay-offs could depend on talks with unions, said SAA human resources manager Bhabhalazi Bulunga. SAA served Section 189 letters to trade unions yesterday. This is in line with the Labour Relations Act which says the company must inform unions or employees of planned dismissals. - Reuters
