Piracy a serious problem in SA

I am concerned that South African music companies are not doing enough to educate musicians about copyright laws.

I am concerned that South African music companies are not doing enough to educate musicians about copyright laws.

The government is also not teaching the public about these laws. Piracy is a serious issue and it should be dealt with. Musicians often accuse each other of stealing or remixing songs. These can end if the battle against copyright is fought and won. Mzwakhe Mbuli declared war against counterfeit goods with his Operation Dudula campaign, but is likely to give up due to lack of support from musicians and the government.

Music production companies, in conjunction with the government, have to take a proactive stance against the selling of pirated CDs and DVDs.

Artists work hard, but get frustrated when they are told that their hit albums are not doing well in the market while they are being played all over the country.

Sometimes consumers buy counterfeit goods without being aware, therefore, I think, manufacturers should help them to identify counterfeit goods.

Piracy remains a serious problem in South Africa. Everyone must play a role in the ongoing war being waged against selling and buying counterfeit goods.
