Boxing development received a shot in the arm with the return to the fight game of promoters Philip Silver, Allan Young and Jeff Ellis, who are back to do what they started way back in 1991.
These three musketeers hosted development tournaments years back in various venues including their favourite, the Brixton Palace, and produced a number of former and current shining stars.
They would resume operating under the banner of Knockout Boxing Promotions, they announced yesterday.
The trio, who started the now popular box-and-dine events which were in contradiction of the Boxing Act, concurred that boxing is like a disease.
"It gets to you and that's it," said Silver who is chief executive of the company. "But it's all because Allan has been nagging us for over a year. He's got it in his blood.
"I also had to deal with my inner soul all the time I went to flex my muscles at Nick Durandt's boxercise gym in Norwood. Some personal trainers there are national champions that we built during our time.
"They kept saying we must come back. Those guys had a special place in our hearts, so here we are."
These fighters include champions Vincent Vuma (SA and WBC International junior middleweight), Sam Malinga (SA junior welterweight) and Evans Mbamba (WBC International flyweight).
Silver, Young and Ellis also groomed Namibian Harry Simon who went on to win the WBO title twice in the junior middle and middleweight divisions.
The trio announced that their first tournament - an eight card box-and-dine programme - will take place at Emperors Palace on September 17.
They hold a national promoters license which means they can only do local fights. "You've got the walk first before you can run", explained Silver before revealing that tickets for their have been sold out already.
