Softball enthusiasts in Tshwane will be treated to an exciting day on Saturday, with six teams battling it out in the yearly Jets Spring Festival at the Atteridgeville diamonds.

Defending champions Wild Beasts of Lebowa- kgomo captured the fifth championship from Botswana Defence Force in a thrilling final last year. Their ladies team made it a double by beating Generals of Atteridgeville 6-5.

Though the tournament has now been running for the past six years and is organised by Jets, they have never won it and it has been mono- polised by Limpopo teams.

The first three years Giant Killers were the champions and the next two were won by Wild Beasts. This year, Jets claim they will offer stiff competition, and put up a much better challenge.

"Based on the hard work and the preparation we have put into this, we feel we stand a much better chance of winning this year than we ever have before," Jets public relations officer Precious Selomane said.

With players such as Fortias Dau and Dumisani Maringa being the only two experienced players in the side, it will be difficult.

Also taking part at the tournament are the Blue Sox from Ekurhuleni and last year's runner-up Botswana Defence Force. Representing the women are Wild Beasts Ladies and Generals Ladies.
