The East Comes Alive Jazz initiative that has given young musicians a platform will take place on Friday at the Birchwood Executive Hotel, Boksburg.

This monthly event features young and established local musicians. This month Ringo Madlingozi will entertain the crowd.

Known as the king of isiXhosa love ballads, Madlingozi is a gifted vocalist, drummer, percussionist and guitarist. He is also a multitalented songwriter, producer and arranger.

Madlingozi will not be alone. He will be joined on stage by Black Mok Jazz Band, famous for its exciting jazz tunes.

Having been known as The East Comes Alive Jazz Event in the past, the event will now change its name to Oude Meester Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz.

According to Jazzman Mahlakgane, marketing director of the hotel, the new concept is aimed at unearthing jazz talent in Ekurhuleni.

"Our patrons spend a few more hours here after a show. It is our responsibility to offer them a tempting rate if they decide to sleep over. It will be the first time the event happens under its new name."
