Metro FM has turned 21, and to mark this milestone, a number of activities that involve the station's listeners have been lined up.

The station started these historic birthday celebrations with hot parties and prizes for listeners on Saturday.

These high energy parties will go on for three months.

As part of the celebrations Metro FM is giving away R1million to one lucky listener, hosting a gala event to honour past and present DJs as well as bringing to South Africa the queen of R&B and soul, Mary J Blige.

The kick off on Saturday involved the station collaborating in these promotional parties with Jack Daniels. The celebratory activities called Metro FM Jack Daniels Style Drive, had lots of prizes at stake.

Listeners also have the chance to win even more prizes on September 8 at Ramsgate Square Café in Pretoria and on September 22 at The Back Room in Soweto.

Before each party a cavalcade of Hummers and Harley's will descend on each area with Metro FM DJs signing autographs, giving away merchandise and VIP tickets for the evening parties.

They will also be carrying with them a giant birthday card that will be sent to Jack Daniels in Tennessee in the US.

Later in the evening the official Style Drive party will get into full swing, promising a blow-out night of music and fantastic fun.

The parties will also be held nationwide.

"We've finally got the key to the door and we're going to throw one long party to celebrate turning 21 with our listeners," said Metro FM station manager Matona Ntshona.
