Former deputy health minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge yesterday urged women to "fix what is broken" in the ANC.
She was addressing the SACP's northern region in Inanda, north of Durban, on Saturday, the last day of women's month. She was referring to the ANC conference in Limpopo in December.
Madlala-Routledge joined the women in singing anti-Mbeki songs with lyrics such as "Thabo Mbeki who killed our beloved Chris Hani", and "there is no man who can rule over the land three times".
She said alliance members had a right to fix the problems in the ANC at the party's national conference to be held in Limpopo in December.
An upbeat Madlala-Routledge had her hands full when people showed support for her. These included the provincial ANC women's league and other bodies.
Madlala-Routledge said despite her recent pain and embarrassment during women's month, she remained a loyal member of the ANC and SACP.
"After so much pain, I took refuge with my family and friends. I listened to many things which hurt me and my sons. I have also received letters of demand from different departments, claiming I owe them more than R500000," she said.
Madlala-Routledge said people encouraged her to be strong and remain focused.
Lungi Gcabashe, ANC women's league deputy chairman in KwaZulu-Natal, said they were still pained by Madlala-Routledge's dismissal.
"The month of August was painful to all women. But we want to fix that; where one person hires and fires others. We made mistakes as the ANC by giving powers to one person. We will change that in Limpopo in December," said Gcabashe.
Meanwhile, African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Fikile Mbalula says the league will not consider any other candidate for the ANC presidency, including ANC national executive committee member and businessman Cyril Ramaphosa, other than its chosen hero, Jacob Zuma.
Mbalula was commenting after the Sunday Times reported yesterday that the union leader- turned-businessman was going to be formally nominated by the OR Tambo district in Eastern Cape as a compromise candidate when nominations open next month.
The ANC will have its crucial elective conference in December.
Ramaphosa could not be reached for comment, but has in the past stated he would not stand for the ANC presidency and that he had not campaigned on behalf of anyone else.
Ramaphosa is chairman of Mondi Shanduka and sits on the boards of a number of other companies.
Mbalula rejected the Sunday Times report, claiming: "That is fiction.
"No-one has proposed Cyril Ramaphosa."
