Members of the Christian men's ministry, Inqanawe-the-Ark, yesterday met at the Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa in Sgodiphola, Daveyton, to mark their first year of existence.
The anniversary celebration, under the auspices of the Daveyton Phomolong Congregation, was attended by 70 members from as far as Lichtenburg in North West.
In his sermon, resident minister Mosimanegape Madimabe, took his reading from Nehemiah 2: 14-20.
Madimabe said members of Inqanawe must at all times strive to emulate Nehemiah in whatever they wanted to achieve.
He said that after spending most of his time in a strange country, Nehemiah wanted to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, which had been neglected for more than 100 years by the Sanballat and Tobiah.
After examining the walls at night, he told those close to him to help him rebuild the walls.
He said to them: "You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins and the gates have been burnt with fire."
The people replied : "Let us start building, and so they began the good work," Madimabe told the congregation.
Nkwenkwe Nkomo, who is the Captain of Inqanawe, said the aim of the group was to empower men to become active in the service of God and the communities where they live.
