Dear Dudu

My boyfriend and I were together for two years. We had problems right from the start. We fought a lot. He often accused me of being unfaithful. He hated my friends, the way I dressed and wasn't comfortable with my family. There was always something wrong and it was my fault. Eventually I had enough and told him that it is over. I didn't realise how bad it was until he left and I felt so relieved. He lives in my area and knows many of my friends. The problem I am having is that he is spreading rumours and saying dreadful things about me. I feel as if I always have to tell people my side of the story and I often get the feeling that they don't believe me. I am getting so frustrated and angry and I don't know what to do. Please help me.

Frustrated Ex, Diepkloof

You need to look at the positive side of this. Aren't you lucky you got out of this relationship? He is obviously a very insecure, unstable and immature man. You need to stop trying to justify yourself to everybody and let it go. His lies will be found out. Those who know and love you will not believe him and they are the ones who matter. He is looking for attention so the best thing is to ignore him. When people tell you what he is saying don't listen. Politely tell them that you are not interested in what he has to say about you as you have moved on with your life.
