Mabel Makgole Choeu, a selfless and passionate woman and retired social worker, is no more.
She died in Ga-Rankuwa on August 25, after a short illness. She was 81.
Choeu was well known and respected in Seshego, Limpopo. She was a woman of many talents who worked tirelessly to uplift the community. She qualified as a social worker at the University of Limpopo, having been a teacher.
An inspiration to many people, especially the disadvantaged and poor, Choeu discovered her passion for community development while teaching at Hebron.
She formed a women's club to raise funds, which were used to build 10 classrooms.
This was the turning point for her, and she decided to make social work her career.
She worked for many organisations, such as the Pretoria Child Welfare, Lebowa government and the Transvaal provincial administration, mainly responsible for community work.
Choeu received many awards for her sterling work, notably the Paul Harris Commemorative Award for her contribution to community development.
In 1991 she received a certificate for literacy professionals from the University of Massachusetts and World Education Boston.
She was also awarded a Howard University international health programme certificate in education in the same year.
She served on many committees that were aimed at improving the lives of people.
Choeuu is survived by her two children Mokgadi, Molapane, and Harris, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She will be buried at Ga-Rankuwa cemetery tomorrow.
The service will start from 6829 Zone 6, Ga-Rankuwa, at 6.30am, before proceeding to the St Peter's Anglican Church, Ga-Rankuwa Zone 1.
