The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) on Monday launched a fund to provide short-term financial assistance to axed Deputy Health Minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge.

The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) on Monday launched a fund to provide short-term financial assistance to axed Deputy Health Minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge.

"In defence of good governance and to support Ms Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, a fund has been set up to assist her with short- term financial needs related to non-payment of her salary and to cover any legal costs of defending these claims," a TAC statement said.

Madlala-Routledge was sacked because she travelled to an HIV-Aids conference without authorisation.

She has reportedly been asked to pay back costs associated with that trip, rent on a government-owned house, and money owed to the government while she was still deputy defence minister.

The TAC would also hold a rally in her support at StGeorge's Cathedral in Cape Town on Wednesday. - Sapa
