North West Premier Edna Molewa says the level of stability, which now prevails at Khutsong, makes it possible for the provincial government to implementthe Merafong Relief Plan.

Molewa said that the broader Merafong Relief Plan can be implemented now that the unrest that had plunged the municipality into turmoil is over.

"The level of safety and security has been jacked up and all those councillors who had fled the township at the height of violence, can now return to the area without fear," said Molewa at Rusternburg on Tuesday.

"More than 3000 houses will soon be built across the Merafong municipality. Sports facilities will also be erected across the province," she said.

The provincial government has allocated a budget of R10million for the eradication of the bucket system by the end of the year.

To date, a total of 10000 bucket toilets have been eradicated in the remaining municipalities throughout the province over the last twelve months.

A total of 14402 bucket toilets are to be eradicated by end of this year in Matlosana, Klerksdorp, said Molewa.
