A 73-year-old man has been arrested for rape after his 14-year-old daughter was sent for a virginity test.
The man was arrested at his home inBomvini village at Ntsikeni, Umzimkhulu, on Monday.
A resident, who asked not to be named to protect the identity of the victim, said the suspect was arrested after his daughter went for virginity testing.
"When the results of the test revealed that the daughter is not a virgin, the girl confessed that her father had been raping her since her mother died six years ago."
Virginity experts and residents reported the matter to police and the suspect was arrested.
He is expected to appear in court today. Police said a rape case was being investigated.
The virginity testing is done by local women linked to traditional structures.
