World renowned US steelpan player Andy Narrel is coming to South Africa next month.
Narrel has a solid following in this country after having previously performed several times here. He will share the stage with South African Afro-folklore-jazz muso Selaelo Selota at the Dome in Johannesburg.
The organisers of the new jazz concept have confirmed the planned performance of Narrel on September 30.
Narrel is a globally renowned steelpan virtuoso. He will headline South Africa's first spring show.
This artist has a formidable reputation as a live performer and his exclusive appearance at Jamming Sundays on September 30 is bound to attract many of his local fans.
Adding to the impetus of the show is South Africa's own guitar great, Selaelo Selota, who will be shooting a live DVD at the Jamming Sundays on the same day.
This will give an extra sparkle to what is already increasingly shaping up to becoming a good concept.
Over the years, Narrel has developed a close relationship with South Africa and its musicians through his belief in the connections that music can make between artists on different continents and from different countries.
The American has pioneered the role of the steel pan in contemporary music. He is also a star performer with legions of fans from New York City to Soweto and all points in-between.
Narrel has made 13 albums and has recorded and performed with Marcus Miller, Chucho Valdes, Aretha Franklin, Hugh Masekela and many other top names.
His most recent musical project is Sakésho (pronounced sah kay show) - a classical jazz quartet with roots deep in the traditional music of the French Caribbean.
Selota is one of South Africa's most gifted guitarists and an accomplished producer and songwriter.
September 30 will not be the first time that Selota has appeared at Jamming Sundays - alongside the likes of Don Laka, Lira, Siphokazi and Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse.
