Youth soccer tourney for Orange Farm

The eighth edition of the Coca-Cola Dona's Mates Development Soccer Tournament to take place at Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, will kick off on Saturday.

James "Maradona" Shabangu, a spokesman for the organising committee, said they were inviting clubs to participate in six categories.

Shabangu, who is also a member of the Orange Farm Sports Forum, identified the categories as seniors, Under-19s, Under-17s, Under-15s, Under-13s and women.

Registrations for the seniors is R850, Under-19s (R600), Under-17s (R500), Under-15s (R400), Under-13s (R300) and women (R500).

First prize for all the categories are seniors (R12000), Under-19s (R3000), Under-17s (R2000), Under-15s (R1500) and women (R2000).

There will also be a floating trophy and 22 gold medals.

"We have already started with the preparations and it's all systems go, the invite is also extended even to clubs in other provinces," said Shabangu.

"In the past we have had clubs from Newcastle, Springs, Sebokeng, Bloemfontein and Witbank. The tournament has grown since we introduced it eight years ago, and it has helped in the development of soccer at Orange Farm."
