Harmony Athletics runners Gloria Baeba and defending champion Sharon Tavenga are among the women intent on winning the Spar 10km Women's Race in Pretoria tomorrow.

However, for the two and a host of others to achieve that, they will have to get the better of Rene Kalmer. The Mr Price athlete is firmly on track to capture the third leg of this series, after taking the Port Elizabeth and Durban races earlier this year.

Kalmer also leads the points table in the Grand Prix division of this race, with 66 points. With teammate Poppy Mlambo out of the way on national duty at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Kalmer stands a good chance of winning the race.

"I'm looking forward to it. I've run all the other races before, but I've never run the Pretoria race, so it will be a new experience," Kalmer said. "I've heard the route is quite tough. Of course, Poppy won't be there but I think there will be quite a lot of opposition."

The race takes place from the University of Pretoria at 6am. The last two races will take place in Cape Town in September and the Johannesburg race will be on October 4.
