Witchcraft is suspected to be responsible for a mysterious fire that has left a Limpopo police investigator with third- degree burns.
The incident, which is the second to affect the same officer, has forced the investigator to withdraw from a case involving a woman police captain.
The owner of the house, Captain Moses Ramosa, a detective in Polokwane, sustained serious burns and was airlifted to a Johannesburg hospital.
Ramosa is believed to be the mastermind behind cracking the case against Captain Christina Molokomme, who allegedly hired hitmen to kill her husband, who works for the Scorpions.
"Of grave concern is that the house belongs to one of our members. Ironically, he is the main guy in the investigation of a case of another police officer implicated in the plot to murder her husband," police spokesman Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo said.
Sowetan has learnt this was the second mysterious fire at Ramosa's home in Seshego.
The first incident took place last month, a day before Molokomme was due to go to court.
Ramosa's wardrobe and contents were burnt to ashes.
However, he did not report the incident as he allegedly regarded it as a minor thing.
The second incident has raised eyebrows. The family believes that witchcraft was behind these fires.
According to a source, an attempt was made to steal the docket from the police station earlier this year.
As a result, Ramosa kept the docket with him .
Mojapelo said they believed someone was trying to steal the docket from Ramosa.
Ramosa's wife yesterday described his condition as "serious".
Molokomme was arrested on December 18 last year after two men she had allegedly hired to kill her husband, Phillip Molokomme, 51, had confessed to the police about the plot.
She had been kept in police custody at a mental hospital where she was undergoing psychiatric observation.
Molokomme, 39, will appear in court next week, where the court will make a ruling whether she is fit to stand trial.
