Sleeping kids miraculously unhurt
A family of six from KwaDabeka, near Pinetown, are counting their blessing after a speeding motorist landed his car on the roof of their home.
The driver apparently lost control of his vehicle and it hit an embankment. The car flew through the air and landed on the roof of Kwenama Mazibuko's bedroom on Tuesday night.
Mazibuko said his family was woken by the loud bang of something landing on the roof of his children's bedroom.
"I thought we were being attacked and I shouted to my children to switch off the lights. I ran outside and saw the car resting on the roof," he said.
"Two people were still in the car. The passenger said the driver was drunk.
"We are lucky to be alive. I'm happy my family was not hurt."
Chris Banks, ER24 spokesman, said the driver of the car was treated for a dislocated shoulder and spinal injuries before he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
"The room where the vehicle landed had been occupied by children who were asleep at the time. It's pure luck that nobody was injured in the accident," said Banks.
"If the car had landed a few metres further on the roof, it would have fallen into the house."
The driver is reported to be in a stable condition in hospital. Police are investigating a case of drunk driving.
