Mpumalanga police and community members are at odds following the bombing of yet another ATM.

Tuesday's blast was the fifth in the Mpumalanga Lowveld in less than six months.

Members of the Marite Trust community, near Bushbuckridge, claim they heard a "huge" blast near the taxi rank at about 2amand called the police station.

The satellite police station is less than 500m from the scene, but the police claim not to have heard anything.

Police spokesman Sydney Tshuketana said the bombers fled with all the money.

But members of the community sang a different tune altogether.

"Police were seen counting money in the morning, next to the damaged ATM," they said.

Tshuketana could not deny that police were seen counting cash at the scene, but urged anyone with information to come forward.

"We are waiting for our team of explosives experts who specialise in these crimes to determine the type of explosive that was used," said Tshuketana.
