Six teachers are in a critical condition after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident yesterday morning.

Arrive Alive spokesman Tshepo Machaea said the accident happened on the N2 between Mthatha and Idutywa in Eastern Cape.

Machaea said the driver of the vehicle taking the teachers to work indicated he was turning right when a vehicle behind crashed into them.

Machaea said the injured teachers were rushed to St Maris and Nelson Mandela hospitals, where they were still in a critical condition.

He was unable to say which school the teachers were going to, but blamed speeding for causing the accident.

In a separate accident on the same road, 14 people were injured and one died in a head-on collision in the Qweqwe area near Mthatha. - Vuyolwethu Sangotsha
