A couple who made headlines last year for allegedly defrauding a Vaal hotel, a car-hire and horse-and-carriage hire company appeared briefly in the Vereeniging Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Moleboheng Molotsane, 26, and her husband Benjamin, 29, allegedly used letterheads from President Thabo Mbeki's office to arrange their extravagant wedding last year.

The couple allegedly duped the companies into believing that their bill, which allegedly amounted to about R90300, would be settled by the highest office in the country.

Before their arrest, Moleboheng was employed as a secretary in the Presidency where she allegedly stole a computer and letterheads which she used to defraud these companies.

The computer was later recovered by the police in Mpumalanga after she sold it to an appliance store in Vereeniging.

Molotsane was released on R3500 bail while her husband was released on a warning. She has been placed under 24-hour house arrest and can only leave her house on Sundays.

Moleboheng was re-arrested for contravening her bail conditions after she was spotted looking for employment at the Vaal University of Technology Radio Station in Vanderbijlpark.

Her bail conditions were relaxed after she informed the court that she wanted to pursue a career in acting. Inside the courtroom the two never said a word to each other. They, however, left together in their lawyer's car.

The trial was postponed to November 19.
