Pupils urged over careers

The North West department of public works has urged pupils with a passion for mathematics and science to consider careers in the construction industry.

The call was made yesterday to about 30 matric pupils from two rural high schools in Taung who toured the site of a R4,7million Ganyesa Hospital revitalisation project.

"We want pupils to feel the atmosphere of the construction site. The campaign will run until August 31. Our aim is to promote the profile of the construction sector and expose young people to a wide range of opportunities in the building environment," said department spokesman Matshube Mfoloe.

He added that the department was experiencing a shortage of skills in the industry. - Elisha Molefe
